So many of Hafftka’s physical works has found a home in prestigious museums across the United States. In December 2018, the Metropolitan Museum of Art expanded its collection with several of Hafftka’s prints. Winds of Yawanawa: A Historic Collaboration for Planetary Sustainability
New media artist Refik Anadol and the Yawanawá community, indigenous to the Brazilian Amazon, have embarked on a groundbreaking collaboration in the name of planetary sustainability. This unique partnership, featured as part of Impact One’s Possible Futures program, brings forth an extraordinary digital artwork series named “Winds of Yawanawa.”
This series is an artistic marvel, comprising a data sculpture and a limited Genesis NFT collection, featuring 1000 unique Data Paintings. These works of art harness real-time weather data from the Yawanawá tribe’s village in the Amazon rainforest, transforming this data into mesmerizing visuals and harmonious soundscapes.
The heart of these creations lies in the contributions of young Yawanawá sisters, Nawashahu and Mukashahu, whose artwork serves as the foundation and visual inspiration for “Winds of Yawanawa.” Traditional Yawanawá chants blend seamlessly with the weather data, resulting in a captivating display of colors and shapes, all driven by wind speed, gusts, direction, and temperature.
This living representation, the central “Winds of Yawanawa” artwork, encapsulates the Yawanawá identity and their profound connection to the Amazonian territory, a crucial ecosystem for all of humanity. As Refik Anadol himself states, this project is his “most meaningful and purposeful” endeavor of the year, a step closer to embracing symbiotic modes of existence on our planet.
Notably, this artwork series is part of Impact One’s Possible Futures program, designed to sow the seeds of an integrated approach to sustainability. Through indigenous wisdom, it offers insights and practical solutions for creating nature-positive built environments and fostering symbiotic ways of life.
In this collaboration, Yawanawá chiefs Nixiwaka, Putanny, and Isku Kua, leaders of the Aldeia Sagrada and Nova Esperança villages, represent the community. The proceeds from the artwork sales will directly support long-term initiatives for the protection of Yawanawá territories and cultural heritage, including sustainable infrastructure and educational programs.
The official unveiling of “Winds of Yawanawa” occurred on July 13, 2023, in partnership with Scorpios Mykonos as part of their Encounters art platform. This remarkable initiative not only showcases incredible art but also promotes indigenous voices, fostering a shared perspective on genuine value impact and global sustainability.
NounsDAO Treasury Split: Fork or The “Rage Quit”
NounsDAO, a leading NFT project known for its adorable digital collectibles, is on the brink of a treasury split following a surge in the “rage quit” movement. Dissatisfied NFT holders, representing a significant 25% of all Nouns NFTs, have opted for a different approach amidst the current bear market conditions.
Instead of attempting to sell their NFTs in a challenging market, these holders are rallying behind the “rage quit” cause. This movement, supported by newly enacted rules, allows Nouns NFTs to call for a “fork” if 20% of them desire to split from the main group. In this process, they can claim their portion of the project’s substantial 30,620 ether tokens, valued at around $50 million.
Each Nouns NFT holds an approximate book value of 36.5 ETH (equivalent to $59,600), contributing to a treasury worth 7,598 ETH (approximately $12.4 million) for the impending fork.
This situation underscores the evolving dynamics within decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) when segments of investors lose confidence in the project’s vision. In the case of NounsDAO, this “rage quit” mechanism, introduced with the recent v3 upgrade, offers disenchanted investors a peaceful exit strategy while unlocking the project’s underlying value.
The NounsDAO fork represents yet another example of how DAOs adapt to the changing landscape of dissenting investors and their quest to reclaim value.
